Foreigners marry Lithuanian women

Lithuania is small and beautiful country in Eastern part of Europe. To be more precise – on the Baltic. As for now, Lithuania is a member of EU and this gives an opportunity to citizens of the country work, travel and live in many countries of the world.

On the other hand, some foreign men are attracted with the idea to find Lithuanian woman for marriage. The fact, that more often Lithuanians are visiting Western countries and Westerners visit Lithuania causes higher frequency of marriages between Lithuanian women and men from abroad.

Lithuania has descent economy, but still it is comparatively poorer to Western countries. No wonder some Western guys using their material superiority are looking for wives in this Baltic country.

Some Lithuanian women consciously make such serious step as marriage with foreigner to get material welfare. Some are getting married to foreigners because of love. Some would never marry foreigner and the only potential husband they see themselves near is local Lithuanian guy.

World is big and people in this world are very different and interesting. We never know exactly what influences their choice. We can’t say marriage with Lithuanian woman is that much popular today, but some percent of Lithuanians married with foreigners surely exist and if you also want to give it a try, you are welcome.

Marriage in Lithuania, as in any other country, demands keeping some rules and paper work. Most of Lithuanians are Roman Catholics and even if 20+ generation is not very religious and does not really keep to the traditions, marriage would still take part both: in the church and at the official authorities.

The next information is taken from the page of the US Embassy in Lithuania; those are marriage requirements for a U.S. citizens who want to marry Lithuanian citizens:

Individuals wishing to get married in Lithuania need to fill out the required forms and submit them along with their passport, birth certificate, and required documents (listed below) to the Civil Registry office.

If a U.S. citizen has never been married, he or she must have a “free to marry” certificate from his or her last state of residence.  This document must have an apostille attached to it.  The apostille is issued by the Secretary of State of the particular U.S. State.

Divorced persons must present a certified copy of their divorce decree.  Widows and widowers must present a death certificate for the deceased spouse.

These documents must be translated into Lithuanian, and the signature of the translator must be notarized.

Please also note:

At least one of the individuals to be married must be either a Lithuanian citizen, a resident of Lithuania, or have Lithuanian ancestry.  Two U.S. citizens with no prior ties to Lithuania will likely not be able to meet the requirements to be married in Lithuania.

The minimum age to marry is 18.

No medical examination or statement is required.

PROCEDURE:

Once the above documents have been certified, they must be submitted, along with passports, to the Civil Registry (Marriage Palace).  Applicants complete local forms and pay the fee for the service to the Civil Registry Office.  A 30-day waiting period is required, after which the couple returns to the Registry to sign and receive the marriage certificate.  The waiting period can be shortened only in exceptional circumstances.

CHURCH WEDDINGS:

There is no bar to church weddings, but it is necessary to complete the civil procedure above in order to obtain the official marriage certificate.

Now you already imagine all the procedure and know how to marry Lithuanian woman. Even if the information is written for the U.S. citizens, the same or similar requirements would be for the citizens of other countries. If you are unsure, please, contact your embassy and you will have no doubts.

In our age of technology and globalization we forget about fundamental but at the same time simple feelings like love and adornment. They still exist, no matter we believe it or not. Marriages based on love and real feelings still take place in Lithuania. If you are thinking about marriage, we wish you it to be based only on such real feelings.
